About Housing Disrepair

We exist for one reason: too many tenants in the UK are living in homes their landlords should have fixed years ago.

What is housing disrepair?

Housing disrepair is the legal term for a rented home that has fallen below the standard the law demands because the landlord has not kept it in repair. It covers damp and mould, water damage, roof and gutter problems, defective windows and doors, electrical faults, broken heating and pipework, pest infestations and internal damage caused by any of these.

All landlords must maintain the structure of their tenanted properties and keep the water, gas, electricity, heating and sanitation working. If you have reported a problem and your landlord has not fixed it within a reasonable time, you could be entitled to compensation as well as the repairs.

Our approach

  • The repairs come first. The main aim of every claim is to get your home fixed properly. Compensation recognises what you have been through while you waited.
  • Plain English. No jargon, no pressure. We explain what is likely to happen and how long it is likely to take.
  • No win, no fee. Tenants on the lowest incomes get the same quality of representation as anyone else, with no financial risk.
  • Evidence-led. Photographs, correspondence, medical records and an independent survey make claims hard to resist. We help you gather them.
  • Regulated and accountable. Claims are handled by solicitors regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority; the firm's details are in the footer of every page.

Time limits

You must bring a claim within six years of the disrepair, so the sooner you contact us the more of the affected period can be included.
